September 2012 Study

Luke-Slider-ad

As the Son of Man, Jesus came into the world as an infant. He lived with His mother and His legal father, Joseph, who was a carpenter. When He was grown, He endured temptations, grew tired, ate, and slept. He enjoyed being with friends. He had feelings, just as we have. The major difference is that the Son of Man was also the Son of God, placed on earth to die for us. That is the beauty of Luke’s gospel: he wrote so that we can know Jesus as a human being; at the same time, he revealed His deity. In chapter after chapter, we are called to come and worship Jesus as Lord and…

…more than a Bible study

Crucifix_Tree_260x200

The success of CBSI lies in its five way process that enables people within a supportive group environment, to understand God’s Word for themselves. 1. Home study Each week there are home study questions, which the participants and leaders complete at home. Most answers can be found in the passage being studied. This helps people get used to using the Bible when answering questions. 2. Group discussion The group meets to discuss the answers they have to the questions. A leader facilitates, moving the discussion along. Large groups usually split into smaller groups for discussion. 3. The talk After discussion time a leader or speaker gives a talk on the passage studied, using testimony and personal application. 4….

mens-group-260x196

The Ascot class, which is open to men and women of all ages, consists of two classes. One class is held during the day and the other in the evening. We are always delighted to welcome new people into our warm and friendly groups. CBSI is very much a team ministry and we value the support and contributions from all our members ranging from contributing to the cake and clear away rota through to being part of the Teaching Rota, being a Discussion Group Leader or a member of the Servants Team.  All giftings are encouraged to be exercised within our classes. You would be most welcome to join us.

I can’t believe Daniel was 80 when he was thrown into the Lions Den!!! I’m so grateful for this easy way to get stuck into the word. I find the questions thought provoking and faith building and God is definitely “growing me” week by week. I love the fiendly and informal nature of our time together, it’s so easy to share toughts and feelings without feeling silly. I learn so much from those in my group I now can’t imagine not coming Thursday evening meals are the highlight of my week! Sharan’s skills in the kitchen and the easy fellowship at the dinner table build us together as a group and give us time to catch…

Blood, Sweat & Compassion

Kilimanjaro

It all started with a dream that I had over a year ago. The dream was very vivid, in colour and affected my senses as well.  I could smell my surroundings and I could feel the heat and dust. I was in a village in Africa surrounded by little African children, their eyes wide and pleading, arms outstretched towards me. A few months later I received a circular from Compassion, a charity that focuses on helping children and young adults living in terrible conditions across the world in Asia, Africa and South America. It was an invitation to take up the challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and in the process raise money to help young…

Testimonies 2011…

Davelynne-222-x-140

For me the CBSI course has been a very rich experience, whether wrestling with the text together in groups, listening to people’s own approaches to study and prayer, or socialising over tea and cakes. That the people come from a variety of Christian churches is an added blessing. I look forward every week to engaging with them and the work, more than I ever thought I would!  PC CBSI is wonderful! It’s a great way to get into the bible and has particularly helped me learn the relevance of the Old Testiment in my life today. The speakers are always fantastic and I love hearing another person’s perspective on the studies. It is informal and…
